Paddy Power Review

Founded in Dublin in 1988, Paddy Power has become one of the UK and Ireland’s most recognisable gambling companies thanks to their bold branding, strong high street presence, and headline-grabbing promotions and advertising. Their cheeky image, aggressive expansion, and merger with Betfair in 2016 has seen them consolidate their already-strong market share in recent years.

The Paddy Power offer for new customers is among the lowest of the major bookmakers. That said, the real value in having PP as one of your betting companies of choice comes with the ongoing offers, and, for us, that cheeky image which brings a bit of fun to advertising and also their offers. When you sign up for a new account, you’ll get a £10 risk free bet. If it loses, you’ll get it refunded as cash. So not the most generous, but not many hoops to jump through.
As you would expect of one of the major players, Paddy Power has a vast range of sports and non sports events to bet on. The usual suspects of football, horse racing, boxing, snooker, rugby league and union are all there, as well as more niche sports and novelty bets. One of the downsides of PP is that they are (understandably) very on the ball with major events which have money back special offers attached. If you like to bet on big premier league matches, for example, don’t be surprised if their normally-good-value odds are on the lower end of the market.

Paddy’s website and app are easy to use and quick to place bets, the app in particular. The search facility on the left of the homescreen finds teams and events quickly, and the fully lists below help you browse many different sports. The chat facility is quick and efficient to use and when we tested, interactions with staff were friendly and efficient. In our eyes, a real shortcoming of Paddy Power is their in-play console. Whilst clean and efficient, it’s rather lacking in dynamism and, crucially, stats. The Bet365 console is a thing of wonder, and this is just a bit average.
Reservations aside about the in play console and the sign up offer, Paddy Power really comes into it’s own when it comes to ongoing offers. There’s 2UP, where you will be paid out if your team (selected matches, but there are an awful lot of them) goes 2 goals up at any point in the match, regardless of the final result. They also operate 14UP, a similar offer, for selected rugby union matches. On selected races you will get money back if 2nd to the SP favourite. Their VIPP club gives you a free £10 bet if you place 5 £10 bets in a week, and there are a ton of extra place races offered and extra places paid at major golf events. Finally, Paddy Power refund stakes on losing 5+ football accumulators if one lets you down (up to four free bets per day).
